Biography

The son of a German father and an Icelandic mother, Lars Duppler studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz in Cologne and the Conservatory in Paris under Hans Lüdemann, John Taylor and Daniel Humair. He was a member of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra and toured with the EBU-Orchestra in 2000. He released 6 CDs as leader of his own bands, ("Lars Duppler Trio plays Kurt Weill", "Alliance Urbaine"), including the album "Rætur", a musical journey through his mother´s homeland which was recorded in Iceland and supported by the Initiative Musik.  Lars was involved in several productions for Sony Music and Warner Music as a member of the Nils Wülker Group. In 2016 Lars released his first solo-recording, produced at the famous Kammermusiksaal of German National Radio in Cologne.

In 2003 Lars won the city of Cologne´s Jazz Award, and he spent 6 months at the Cité des Arts in Paris in 2006 as the recipient of a grant from the state of North Rhine Westphalia. He reached third place in the New German Jazz Award in 2008 with his quartet Alliance Urbaine.

In 2016 Lars released his first solo-recording, “naked”, produced at the famous Kammermusiksaal of German National Radio in Cologne.

He is a member of "Niels Klein Tubes & Wires" with Hanno Busch and Jonas Burgwinkel and the "Jens Düppe Akustik Band" with Frederik Köster and Christian Ramond.

He is currently leading the Trio "Lars Duppler unbound" with Denis Gäbel and Jens Düppe, playing Fender RHodes and Moog Synthesizer and the german-icelandic Duo "Hringferð" with Stefan Karl Schmid.

In October 2011 Lars Duppler joined the faculty of the Musikhochschule Osnabrück as adjunct professor of jazz piano and ensemble director.

Tours and concerts led him to various destinations including Iceland, Scandinavia, France, Belgium, Holland, Italy, Switzerland, Dubai, India, Pakistan, China, and he visited Russia, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan on behalf of the Goethe Institut.  

Lars has worked with Dominik Miller, Joachim Kühn, Gene Calderazzo, Wolfgang Muthspiel, John Ruocco, Keith Copeland and Torun Eriksen, and has been involved in numerous TV and radio productions for BR, NDR, WDR, 3sat, Deutschlandfunk and Radio Bremen.
